Which credential do water purveyors actually accept?

They accept the names printed in their current tester policy, which is usually a short list. Common entries are ASSE 5110, USC Foundation tester certification, ABPA, an AWWA section tester program, or a state license. Ask for the list in writing. What do training, exams, and recertification look like?

Plan on a full-time course of about one week, a written test, and a hands-on test where you set up a gauge and diagnose a known assembly. I would not trust a course that never gets you wet. The whole job is wet.

Exact hours are not uniform. Texas, Washington, and many USC-style schools cluster around a multi-day bench course.
